Maciej Gański, born in Gdańsk, graduated with honours from The Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk in prof. Andrzej Artykiewicz’s piano class, where he received the degree of the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA). Also a graduate of the prestigious postgraduate studies at Solistklasse at The Danish National Academy of Music in prof. Christina Bjørkøe’s class.

 

In the years 2020-2022 The Dean of The Faculty of Instrumental Studies at Academy of Music in Gdańsk. Perfected his musical skills in partnership with such renowned celebrities of the world of music as, among others, Philippe Entremont, Eugen Indjic, Andrzej Jasiński, Lee Kum-Sing, Wiera Nosina, Ewa Pobłocka and Bernard Ringeissen. “Maciej Gański carries on with the golden era of the Polish piano music,” “one of the distinguished pianists of the young generation,” “he was revealed as a titan of the piano,” “ultimate performer with extraordinarily transparent and crystalline technique”, are only a few selected reviews of the artist’s performance.

 

Winner of 20 international and national competitions including The Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition in New York City (USA), The Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship Award in Aarhus (Denmark), The 6th International Piano Competition in Villa de Capdepera in Mallorca (Spain), The 3rd International Chopin Competition in Vilnius (Lithuania), The 8th M.K. Ogiński International Chamber Music Competition in Smorgonie’ (Belarus), The 5th International I.J. Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, The 6th K. Szymanowski International Competition in Łódź, The 4th J. Brahms International Chamber Music Competition in Gdańsk, The 5th National Piano Competition in Zabrze, and The 5th L. Stefański National Piano Competition in Płock. The winner of Estrada Młodych at The 41st Festival of Polish Piano Music in Słupsk, where he also received a reward for the best performance of Karol Szymanowski’s composition. Recipient of many prestigious scholarships, both in Poland and abroad including of the Danish Government, the Minister of Culture (five times), Młoda Polska Programme, The President of The City of Gdańsk (four times), and The Marshall of the Pomeranian Province. His artistic activities were recognized with the Award of The City of Gdańsk for Young Creators in the Area of Culture. An artist who is also an acclaimed educator.

 

Since 2009 he has been teaching and carrying out research at The Chair of Piano at The Academy of Music in Gdańsk, currently as an assistant professor. He led many master courses and delivered many lectures at foreign schools of higher education in music and in cultural centres such as in Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, Wenzhou, Xuzhou, Hefei Odense and Avellino. Serves as a member of the jury at international piano competitions. The students in his care won awards at international and national competitions, with over a dozen of his graduates working at academies and schools of music with educational successes. Performed at several hundred concerts including in Japan, USA, China, Egypt, Guadeloupe, France, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain, The Netherlands, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Lithuania, The Ukraine, Belarus, as well as in many cities in Poland. Played in the most prestigious concert halls including Salle Cortot in Paris or Queen’s Hall in Black Diamond in Copenhagen. Played the Polish premiere of the Piano Concert No. 4 of Miłosz Magin, which he also performed at l’Hotel de Ville at the Paris City Hall. Performed on numerous occasions as a soloist with many orchestras including Odense Symphony Orchestra from Denmark and La Camerata Sa Nostra from Palma, Spain. Performed at tens of international musical festivals. Recorded for Polish, Japanese, Spanish, French, Guadeloupe television and Danish and Polish radio. Among his achievements are four CD albums. His solo album, Liszt Transcriptions, became a part of his doctoral thesis entitled Transcriptions of Songs and Operas of Franz Liszt, which won him excellent reviews from such icons as Kevin Kenner and Antoni Wit. His second album is a chamber music project with compositions of Antoni Rutkowski. His third album, recorded at historical piano (dating around 1830-1840), contains Solo Recital with compositions by W.A. Mozart, F. Chopin and F. Liszt. The amazingly abundant concert repertory of Maciej Gański incorporates also Concerto No.3 by S. Rachaminoff and Liszt’s transcription of the ouverture to Tännhauser opera by R. Wagner, which are considered one of the most difficult pieces of piano literature. Maciej Gański also feels great in the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. In December 2021, the DUX company released an album on which he made the premiere recording of the 1st Piano Concerto "Multimirrors" (2021) by the Gdańsk composer Kamil Cieślik, with the Big Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, conducted by Sylwia JaniakKobylińska. In September 2021, he was the first Polish pianist to record a complete set of 20 Etudes by Philip Glass.
