Guigla Katsarava Pianist Professor at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Specially Appointed Professor at the Tokyo Ondai University Biography Born in Tbilissi, the French-Georgian pianist Guigla Katsarava accomplished his musical studies with remarkable distinction, completing the full curriculum and obtaining the highest degrees of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow (Pr. Lev Naumov’s class) and a post-graduate course at the Franz Liszt Hochschule in Weimar (Pr. Lazar Berman’s class) and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris (Pr. Gérard Fremy’s class).
Guigla Katsarava has performed recitals, chamber-music and with orchestra, in many countries all across Europe, as well as in the ex-USSR territories, U.S.A, Brazil, Japon, South Korea ,Vietnam, Israel and in the Middle-East.
Among the concert-halls where he has played, are the Residenz in Munich, Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama, Tokyo Art Center, Kobe Auditorium, the National Opera House in Hanoi, the Deutsche Bank Atrium in Berlin,Theater in Essen, the Jerusalem Music Centre, the Great Hall of Minsk Philharmonie, the Great Hall of the Tbilissi Conservatory, Salle Cortot in Paris, La Pedrera in Barcelona, Sala Cecilia Meireiles in Rio de Janeiro etc.
He was invited to perform at a large number of festivals such as the Radio-France Montpellier, Flâneries Musicales in Reims, Piano à Riom, Piano Pic, Saint-Omer en Musique, Rencontres Musicales de l'Abbaye de la Prée (France), Piano a Saint-Ursanne ( Switzerland),the Carmel Festival (Israel),Bonneville Chamber Music Festival(USA), Musica nas Montanas (Brazil) and more.
A well-known and sought-after pedagogue himself, Guigla Katsarava was a tenured professor at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot since a number of years, since April 2022 he is invited to join the faculty of Tokyo Ondai University as Specially Appointed Professor.
He teaches in several master classes, in France and abroad (Japon, South Korea, USA, Spain, Portugal, Brazil...). He was invited as a guest professor to teach public master classes by the following Universities - Tokyo Ondai, Tokyo Toho Gakuen, Tokyo Senzoku- Japan, Weber State University, Utah-USA, Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de JaneiroBrazil, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre-Brazil.
In 2019 he was a special guest at Tokyo Ondai and Tokyo Toho Gakuen Universities for a lecture-concert titled "A. Scriabin's Prometheus in 20th Century's art: some special aspects of A. Scriabin's pianism". Guigla Katsarava was a jury member at International Piano Competitions -F.Poulenc ( France), Santa Cecilia Piano Competition Porto (Portugal), Japan Art Center Piano Competition (Japan), International Magnus Piano Competition (Lithuania), he was a chairman at the 1st Rachmaninof International Piano Competition 2019 Tokyo (Japan).
